How Gas Struts Work
How do gas struts work?
The basic principle of a gas spring is the same as for a mechanical coil spring; it is a device for storing energy. However, rather than straining the material that makes up the coil spring, a gas spring stores energy by compressing the Nitrogen gas contained inside.

Here is a list of a few things we recommend when designing your application and mounting our gas struts.
Gas strut positioning
There are two differing mounting orientations available to the designer, these are ‘Push Up’ and ‘Flip Over’ mounting. In both cases, it should always be mounted “rod down” when in the fully closed position to ensure proper lubrication of the seal package.

Expected gas strut life
In ideal fitting circumstances, at room temperature and a maximum of three cycles per minute Camloc Gas Springs have a permitted maximum force loss of 10% after 50,000 cycles. In some instances, our customers have successfully tested Camloc Gas Springs to over 200,000 cycles.

Gas strut disposal advice
Gas struts are highly pressurised products and can be potentially dangerous. To eliminate potential dangers gas struts and dampers should be disposed of correctly in accordance with these instructions.
Gas strut shelf life and storage recommendations
Camloc Gas springs should be stored in a clean, dry environment at room temperature between 10 and 25°C. Springs must be stored with the rod facing downwards.

Gas springs and hydraulic dampers manufactured by Camloc Motion Control Ltd can be charged to high internal pressures. They must not be heated or opened.
