Our locking gas struts are equipped with a special internal locking valve, which enables you to stop the strut in any desired position. This means you can achieve precise height and angle adjustments for seats on various vehicles and seating systems.
If you need a solution for height adjustment that stays firmly in place or allows for quick and easy adjustments, then our locking gas struts, specifically the Blocklift range, are exactly what you’re looking for.
Our Blocklift range consists of four unique products, each designed to suit a variety of applications and projects.
BL1: Rigid in Extension
These gas struts provide full rigidity when extended, while still allowing a slight movement when compressed. Once the compressive load is released, the piston rod automatically returns to its original position. The beauty of these locking gas struts is that they can be mounted in any orientation, offering maximum flexibility for your projects.
BL2: Rigid in Compression
Designed for complete rigidity in compression, these gas struts allow a small amount of movement when extended. After the extension load is released, the piston rod automatically returns to its initial position. While our engineers recommend mounting these locking gas struts with the rod facing downward, they can be mounted in any position as long as you let us know your requirements at the time of inquiry.
BL3: Spring Blocking (Elastic Locking)
If you need some level of comfort even when the Blocklift is locked in position, these locking gas struts are the perfect choice. Similar to the springs in an office chair, these struts compress a few millimeters when a load is applied during extension or compression. After reaching a certain point, it becomes harder to compress due to increased pressure, ensuring a secure locked position. Once the load is released, the piston rod returns to its initial position. To ensure optimal performance, these locking gas struts should be mounted with the rod facing downward.
BL4: Rigid in Extension and Compression
The BL4 locking gas strut offers complete rigidity in both extension and compression. It is available with or without an extension force, depending on whether you need the gas strut to control the application or if the application is already controlled by an external mechanism. Versatility is a key feature of these locking gas struts, as they can be mounted in any orientation.

What are the main benefits of locking gas struts?
UK-manufactured product
Locks in any position along the length of stroke
Single-handed operation
Safe to use with easy positional control
Self-contained unit and maintenance-free
Available in carbon or 316L stainless steel
So, how do these locking gas struts actually work?
Our locking gas struts are equipped with a special locking valve that allows them to be stopped in any position. This means that when you adjust the strut to your desired height or angle, it stays firmly in place. The secret lies in the release pin, which is located at the end of the rod. When you depress this pin, it allows the strut to move freely. You can activate the release pin using a cable-operated mechanism or a directly attached paddle.
Now, let’s talk about where you’ll find these locking gas struts in action. They are commonly used for height and angle adjustment of seats in aircraft, buses, trains, specialist vehicles, and military vehicle seating. But their versatility doesn’t stop there. They also come in handy for providing controllable adjustment on hospital beds, physiotherapy tables, wheelchairs, and even height risers for desks. In fact, locking gas struts can be used in a wide range of applications across various industries. The possibilities are truly limitless, limited only by the imagination of design engineers.

What sizes are available?
Gas struts are commonly referenced by their size. The sizes directly relate to the diameter of the rod and the tube, for example, an 8-23 in the Blocklift range will have a rod diameter of 8mm and a tube diameter of 23mm. The most common sizes for our locking gas struts are 10-28 and 8-23.
We also offer a wide range of bespoke sizes depending on your requirements.
