Locking Gas Struts

What sets our locking gas struts apart is the incorporation of an ingenious internal locking valve. This unique feature allows the strut to be held securely in any desired position.

The versatility of our locking gas struts makes them well-suited for a wide range of applications. One common use is in the adjustment of seat height and angle on various transportation platforms, including aircraft, buses, trains, specialist vehicles, and even military vehicle seating.

Want to know more about our Locking Gas Strut- Blocklift?

If you’re looking for a solution that allows for height adjustment that remains fixed in position or easy and instant adjustments to applications, then our Locking Gas Struts – Blocklift might be precisely what you need.

In our Blocklift range, we offer four distinct products, each tailor-made for a variety of applications and projects. Let’s take a closer look:

BL1: Rigid in Extension

The BL1 gas strut is designed to provide full rigidity in extension. While allowing for a few millimeters of movement in compression, it locks the piston in extension securely. When a compressive load is released, the piston rod automatically returns to its original position. For added convenience, these locking gas struts can be mounted in any orientation, allowing for flexibility in a wide range of projects.

BL2: Rigid in Compression

For applications requiring complete rigidity in compression, we offer the BL2 gas strut. It allows for a slight movement of a few millimeters in extension. Once the extension load is released, the piston rod seamlessly returns to its initial position. While our engineers recommend mounting these locking gas struts in a rod-down position, they can be mounted in any position, provided the details are communicated at the time of the enquiry.

BL3: Spring Blocking (Elastic Locking)

Ideal for applications where comfort is needed even when the Blocklift is locked in position, the BL3 locking gas struts offer elastic locking through a spring blocking mechanism. Similar to the springs found in office chairs, when a load is applied to the locked gas strut in either extension or compression, the piston rod compresses a few millimeters. As further compression becomes harder due to increased internal pressure, the gas strut holds firmly in position. Once the load is released, the piston rod returns to its initial state. These locking gas struts should be mounted rod down.

BL4: Rigid in Extension and Compression

The BL4 locking gas strut provides total rigidity in both extension and compression. It is available with or without an extension force, depending on whether you require the gas strut to control the application or if the application is controlled by an external mechanism. These locking gas struts offer the ultimate in versatility and can be mounted in any orientation.

What are the main benefits of locking gas struts?

  • UK-manufactured product
  • Locks in any position along the length of stroke
  • Single-handed operation
  • Safe to use with easy positional control
  • Self-contained unit and maintenance-free
  • Available in carbon or 316L stainless steel

How do locking gas struts operate?

Our locking gas struts work with an internal locking valve that allows you to hold the strut securely in any desired position. The release pin at the end of the rod only allows movement when depressed through a cable-operated release mechanism or attached paddle.

Locking gas struts are commonly used for height and angle adjustments of seats on various transportation platforms, including aircraft, buses, trains, specialist vehicles, and military vehicle seating. They also provide controllable adjustment on hospital beds, physiotherapy tables, wheelchairs, and height risers for desks. You would be surprised to know that the applications of locking gas struts are endless, and its use is only limited by the design engineer’s creativity.

Our locking gas struts are engineered to the highest standards and are trusted by industry professionals across multiple sectors. Our mission is to make high-tech solutions easily accessible and within reach for everyone, ensuring that you receive the performance and quality you deserve.

What sizes do you offer?

Gas struts are commonly referenced by their size. The sizes directly relate to the diameter of the rod and the tube, for example, an 8-23 in the Blocklift range will have a rod diameter of 8mm and a tube diameter of 23mm. The most common sizes for our locking gas struts are 10-28 and 8-23.

We also offer a wide range of bespoke sizes depending on your requirements.
