Locking Gas Springs

At Camloc, we understand the importance of reliable gas springs in various applications. Our range of locking gas springs work just like conventional struts, with a unique internal locking valve that allows you to stop the strut in any position. These versatile locking gas springs are perfect for a variety of applications, including adjusting the height and angle of seats on aircraft, buses, trains, military vehicles, and specialist vehicles.

Unlocking the Potential of Locking Gas Springs – Introducing Blocklift

When it comes to height adjustment that stays securely in place or easy and instant adjustments, look no further than our locking gas struts – Blocklift.

Our Blocklift range offers four unique products, each specially designed for a variety of applications and projects.

BL1: Rigid in Extension

Locks the piston in extension for full extension rigidity, while allowing a small amount of compression movement. The piston rod automatically returns to its original position when the compressive load is released. These locking gas struts can be mounted in any orientation, offering flexibility for various projects.

BL2: Rigid in Compression

This gas spring provides complete rigidity in compression but allows a slight movement in extension. When the extension load is released, the piston rod returns to its initial position automatically. While our engineers recommend mounting these locking gas springs rod down, they can be mounted in any position by advising us during the enquiry.

BL3: Spring Blocking (Elastic Locking)

Ideal for applications requiring additional comfort, even when the Blocklift is locked in position. Similar to office chair springs, these locking gas struts compress a few millimeters when a load is applied in extension or compression. Beyond that point, increased pressure holds it locked in place. The piston rod returns to its initial position once the load is released. Mount these locking gas springs rod down.

BL4: Rigid in Extension and Compression

The BL4 locking gas spring delivers complete rigidity in both extension and compression. It can be obtained with or without extension force, depending on whether control is needed for the application or if it is externally controlled. These locking gas struts are versatile and can be mounted in any orientation.

Unlocking the Mechanics of Locking Gas Struts

Have you ever wondered how locking gas springs are able to hold any position? It’s all thanks to the innovative design that incorporates a locking valve. These gas struts only allow movement when the release pin, located at the end of the rod, is depressed. This can be done using a cable-operated release mechanism or a directly attached paddle.

Locking gas springs find widespread use in various applications. One common example is the height and angle adjustment of seats on aircraft, buses, trains, specialist vehicles, and military vehicle seating. They also provide controllable adjustment on hospital beds, physiotherapy tables, wheelchairs, and can even be utilized as height risers for desks. The versatility of locking gas springs knows no bounds, with countless possibilities in a wide range of industry sectors. Design engineers can unleash their imagination when incorporating these reliable solutions into their projects.

What sizes do you offer?

Gas springs are commonly referenced by their size. The sizes directly relate to the diameter of the rod and the tube, for example, an 8-23 in the Blocklift range will have a rod diameter of 8mm and a tube diameter of 23mm. The most common sizes for our locking gas struts are 10-28 and 8-23.

We also offer a wide range of bespoke sizes depending on your requirements.

What options are available?

  • BL1: Rigid in Extension
  • BL2: Rigid in Compression
  • BL3: Spring Blocking (Elastic)
  • BL4: Rigid in Extension and Compression
  • Tube lengths available in 1mm increments
  • Stroke length available in 5mm increments
