The aerospace industry is known for being both diverse and challenging due to its wide range of requirements for motion control solutions.
These requirements vary considerably between projects, and it is also important to consider the huge range of possible applications not only for the aircraft itself, but also the range of support services and vehicles required to keep the aircraft supplied and airworthy.
At Camloc Motion Control, our standard range of gas struts and dampers are suitable for many different applications, and our team can even tailor bespoke solutions for you as and when needed. We are at the forefront of our industry, thanks to many years of working with industry leaders who bring the latest innovations, technologies and products for cabin interiors and passenger comfort within commercial aircraft.

Where gas springs can be found within the aerospace sector
It’s fascinating when you realise just how many ways gas springs are used within the aerospace industry. For example, aircraft overhead storage compartments, passenger seating and foldaway tables all make use of this simple, yet essential, component.
The list where gas springs can be used goes on, but here are a few of the key specific applications:
- Storage solutions for emergency vehicles
- Storage compartments
- Passenger seating solutions
- Folding mechanism for crew seating
- Pilot seating
- And anything else you can think of!
If you have a particular project in mind, get in touch with us. Our bespoke offering is ideal for tailor-made motion control solutions that meet the end-user’s exact requirements. Our engineering support begins at concept design, continuing through to project completion. From designing the original concept to the final tests, our team of talented engineers enjoy nothing more than working out a complex problem for our customers.
Examples of how our gas springs provide solutions within the aerospace sector
Gas struts can be found in a wide variety of places in the aerospace sector. Our most popular product is the fixed force compression gas struts – Swift and Sure. A good example of where these are used is in airport support vehicles, because they often have a number of requirements for motion control solutions.
This gas spring is available in a range of sizes, with a wide variety of end connectors and brackets. It is an entirely self-contained, maintenance-free, hydro-pneumatic ram, which possesses the characteristics of a compression spring which makes it ideally suited on vehicles of any size.
For applications where lift assistance and ease-of-use for the end-user is required, such as full-flat bed seating, our Locking Gas Struts – Blocklift products are fitted with a special locking valve that will only allow the spring to be released when the pin is pressed for controlled manoeuvrability when positioning the seat. Locking Gas Struts – Blocklift gas springs can be stopped at any position during operation, working in a similar fashion to conventional gas springs, with the addition of an internal locking mechanism.
For folding crew seating, our fixed force compression gas struts – Swift and Sure are an ideal option. It has the characteristics of a compression spring which, coupled with a small force as it extends, provides a controlled rate of movement. Once the extension is almost complete, oil damping occurs due to a hydraulically cushioned zone, returning the seat to its folded position in a smooth and controlled manner.
Our range of hydraulic dampers – Hydraulic Dampers – Cam-Shoc – are highly suited to airport support vehicles for applications such as breathing apparatus stowage compartments. Hydraulic Dampers – Cam-Shoc are used to control or arrest movement in the most critical and demanding of applications, such as controlling the descent of stored breathing apparatus used in emergency vehicles.
Both our standard fixed force compression gas struts – Swift and Sure and Locking Gas Struts – Blocklift have the capacity to come in 316L Stainless Steel.
Our bespoke offering is ideal for tailor-made motion control solutions to meet the end-user’s exacting standards.
At Camloc, we offer a bespoke service, and our team of experienced engineers will work with you to provide gas spring solutions, even if it is outside the standard type and sizes. We pride ourselves on our service to customers, with design engineers on hand to work with you using the latest CAD/CAE techniques. Recognising that no two applications are the same, we provide engineered solutions to meet your exact requirements.
